NuvaRing® is a small, flexible ring that delivers low doses of two female hormones, estrogen and progestin, into your body. This helps prevent pregnancy by:
Suppressing ovulation (ovulation is the process by which a mature egg is released from the ovary)
Causing the mucus on the cervix to thicken, which helps prevent sperm from reaching the egg
Using NuvaRing® is simple. You insert it into your vagina and leave it there for three weeks. You then remove it for a week, during which you have your period. After the week is up, you insert a new ring, and you're protected for another full month. That's all there is to it.
