Drink
plenty of fluids and avoid alcohol while taking medications.
Rest
in bed the day of the procedure. You may resume normal activities
the following day, but avoid any strenuous activities, exercise or
heavy lifting (over 15 pounds) for 2 weeks.
** We can give you an excuse for work or school (including
P.E.) **
Do not
drive, operate heavy machinery, or make important decisions for 24
hours.
Monitor
your temperature for the next week. If it is 101° or higher, contact
the clinic.
For the
next 2-3 weeks, until after your follow-up exam:
A) Do NOT immerse yourself in water including tub bathing, hot tubing,
swimming, and douching. You may shower at any time.
B) No sexual contact or intercourse.
Do not
use tampons for 6 weeks to avoid the risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome.
You may
bleed lightly, heavily or not at all in the next 2 weeks. It is normal
to pass small blood clots, no larger than a half-dollar. The color
of your discharge may vary between bright red, pink, and dark brown.
If you experience heavy bleeding (saturating 2-3 pads in one hour)
or pass egg size clots or larger, contact us immediately.
Your menstrual
period will return in 4-8 weeks.
If you
experience cramping, you may take a non-aspirin product. Ibuprofen
works best. Do not use a heating pad on your abdomen.
You need
a follow-up exam in two, no more than three weeks, after your surgical
procedure. You may schedule with our facility for a follow-up appointment.
